This represents one of the most successful text fundraising exercises ever conducted in the UK with a total of around £3m raised for Live 8. The two nearest comparisons where UK mobile operators worked together in this way were the Tsunami appeal, when between 1 January and 26 February 2005 a total of 726,875 messages donating £1.50 each were sent to the Disasters Emergency Committee's fundraising appeal, and Celebrity Fame Academy 2005, which on Red Nose Day 2005 generated 900,000 votes each of which donated 15p for Comic Relief.
People entered the competition by text message or via post on average each person sent 1.62 texts. Successful postal entrants will be sent tickets by special delivery. All winners who entered by text will be notified by a free text message sent to their handset by 16th June 2005. Winners will receive a unique identification PIN number and will be directed to the website www.live8live.com to claim their tickets by 20th June. The website will give winners exact details of how to pick up their tickets from one of 50 O2 stores around the UK.
