Spoken Word - Our Headliners
JOHN COOPER CLARKE (Leeds Festival Sunday 24th August, Reading Festival Friday 22nd August)
A British institution, Cooper Clarke's acerbic and witty poems first came to public prominence in the punk revolution of the 1970's. Tours with the likes of The Sex Pistols, The Fall and Joy Division made Cooper Clarke a key figure within the punk movement but his star has more than endured since that scene's demise with a host of current stars proclaiming their love of the 'Bard of Salford'. A recent collaboration with John McLure of Reverend and the Makers was the B Side to the 'Heavyweight Champion Of The World' single and Clarke's poem 'Out Of Control Fairground' decorated the inner sleeve of Arctic Monkey's 'Fluorescent Adolescent' single whilst the man himself played John Cooper Clarke in the Anton Corbin Joy Division film 'Control' reliving supporting the band 30 years ago. This is a rare treat, a central figure to UK pop culture live on stage ad a must see moment.
