CHRIS SHEPHERD SHORTS (Leeds 22/8, Reading 22/8). Chris Shepherd's debut came with a Channel 4 film called 'The Broken Jaw'. The animated short, made in 1997, illustrated the plight of a public house after it's been transformed into a fun pub. During the same year he animated the world stare-out championship for BBC comedy sketch show 'Big Train'. His radical live action and animation film, 'Dad's Dead' scooped 25 international awards including BAFTA Best Short Film and amongst his impressive cv is work on animation for Channel 4's 'Nathan Barley' and a TCM Classic Short Award in 2006 for 'Silence Is Golden'.
CRAZY GIRL SHORTS (across the weekend at both sites). Tiff McGinnis, aka Crazy Girl, is a London based audio / visual artist whose shorts also feature her self composed soundtracks. Her colourful, twisted, humorous and thought provoking shorts have been seen across the globe and her first animation, 'High Tide Hell' was watched by Albert Hoffman, the inventor of LSD, on his 100th birthday.
HALLOWEEN (Leeds Only) returns to the Alternative Stage for the 10th year! Originally set up in the 90's as a showcase for short film, Halloween became more than just about films when it started putting on multi-media events with live bands, visuals, and cabaret across venues in London and at music festivals, as Halloween likes music as much as film! Now Halloween is re-invented as a Festival taking place annually in London cinemas and venues, and it also continues to tour and curate events throughout the year to both film and music festivals.
