Her cover of Snow Patrols ballad Run was not originally intended to come out as a single. However, after her first performance of the track in the Radio 1 Live Lounge, it became clear from the phenomenal response that the track should be released.
Run has now become the fastest selling digital-only track, having sold 133,591 copies, more than double the previous mark. It appears on the en-hanced version of her debut album Spirit, which recently became the first album re-issue to top the album charts, and as a result, has now sold more than four million copies around the world.
It has been an impressive year for X-Factor winner Leona Lewis. Her debut single Bleeding Love recently recieved a Grammy Nomination for Record Of The Year , as well as being announced as iTunes' most downloaded track of 2008.
More outstanding figures were seen in the UK album charts this week as Take That took the number one spot with their fifth studio album The Circus. Having sold 432,000 copies of the album Take That sat at number one, ahead of The Killers and Leona Lewis, who charted at number two and number three respectively.
Take That's The Circus ranks third in terms of greatest first week sales. Only Be Here Now by Oasis in 1997 and Coldplay's 2005 album X&Y have sold in greater volumes during their first seven days.
Take That were understandably pleased about the success of their latest album, stating that it was "an incredible feeling to have the new album do what it's done this week. We set out to make a record that each of us was really proud of and we did that. To then have it fly off the shelves like it did this week has been just amazing,"
After much controversy due to the same name and release date, Britney Spears' latest album Circus came into the album charts at number four and her single Womanizer rose four places in the singles chart to number three.
