There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.

Leona Lewis Beats Dido With Number One Album

The re-release of Leona Lewis' debut album Spirit has beaten Dido's album Safe Trip Home to the number one spot in the UK album charts.

Spirit already achieved number one album status when it was first released in November 2007, after Leona Lewis won the UK talent show The X-Factor. The new edition of the record features bonus tracks and proved tough competition for Dido's third album Safe Trip Home. Life For Rent, the second album from Dido, reached number one in the UK album charts when it was released in 2003.

Although the X-Factor winner prevailed in the album charts, the X-Factor charity single was knocked down to second place in the UK singles chart by Beyonce's If I Were A Boy. The charity single Hero, featuring all the X-Factor finalists covering Mariah Carey's hit, was recorded in support of the charity Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Though it was knocked from the top spot this week the single is still the fastest selling charity record of the decade and the fastest selling single of 2008.

Close behind the X-Factor finalists were US band The Killers who climbed one place to chart at number three in the UK singles chart this week with their single Human. TI fell two places, charting at number four with Live Your Life. Katy Perry came in at number five this week with Hot n Cold, followed by Alesha Dixon's The Boy Does Nothing at six.
