The album sold over 375,000 copies in just one week, 12,000 more than the Arctic Monkeys' debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, which was released in 2006.
The record for fastest selling British album though is still held by Oasis who sold 813,000 copies of Be Here Now back in 1997. But Leona's Spirit album now ranks as the fourth fastest-selling album of all time, ahead of Robbie Williams' Intensive Care album, which is the fifth fastest-selling album and Michael Jackson's Bad album, which is eighth. Only Oasis, Coldplay's X&Y and Dido's Life For Rent rank above her Spirit album.
Leona also managed to pip the Spice Girls to the post as their Greatest Hits compilation entered the chart at number two, while Led Zeppelin collection Mothership went straight into the album chart at number four.
Other new entries in the album chart included Celine Dion's Taking Chances album, in at number five, The Killers with Sawdust at number sevenn and Andrea Bocelli's Best Of album, Vivere, at number eight.
Meanwhile in the singles chart which Leona is still at the top of, Bloc Party had a new entry with Flux at number eight and Children In Need single, Loch Lomond, a new version of the single for Runrig, saw the folk-rock band claim their first ever top ten single as it went in at number nine.
