Love Trio ft U-Roy - In Dub - Plus live at Cargo, London, Wednesday 14th May
The mighty U-Roy, one of the pioneers and biggest names in Dub, will be landing in London alongside NYC's Love Trio to play a very special and intimate concert showcasing their new collaborative album, 'In Dub'. This is a rare chance to catch the legend in London and on one of the best sound systems around.
Love Trio and U-Roy's collaborative album 'In Dub' has been a long time in the making. Known as 'The Originator', U-Roy wasn't the first DJ, nor even the first to cut a record, but he was the first to shake the nation and originated a style so distinctly unique that he single-handedly changed his homeland's
music scene forever.
U-Roy started his meteoric rise in Jamaica in 1961 DJing with some of the top sound systems of the day. He met and recorded with King Tubby at Duke Reid's studio and soon became his top DJ. Over the following years U-Roy DJ'd and cut tunes with many of the heavyweights of the Roots and Dub scene including Peter Tosh, Bunny Lee, and John Lee. It was with John Lee that U-Roy had the unprecedented achievement of recording three tracks that went straight to the top of the Jamaican charts and stayed there for an incredible 1½ months!!
Love Trio's Ilhan Ersahin first heard U-Roy when he was 13 years old, it was one of his first record purchases and set him on a path that would ultimately culminate in the creation of the astounding 'In Dub'. Alongside Ersahin were bassist Jesse Murphy, a young California native who would become bassist with Brazilian Girls, and drummer Kenny Wollesen of Tom Waits renown. As a group Ershin, Murphy, Wollesen and U-Roy make for a formidable assemblage. Their combined efforts and knowledge have created an outstanding album seamlessly fusing Dub, Roots, Jazz and other styles into what is a pure album of depth and soul, enveloping the listener in a blanket of thick bass and comforting melodies. Their visit to London will be a unique, one-off show of epic proportions
