MOBO Nominations 2008 Led By Estelle
Words: Ishmail Mohamed
Everyone agrees that 2008 has been a great year for British black music and the MOBO awards have really represented this in the way of nominations.
This years MOBO nominations are dominated by UK R&B star Estelle, who is nominated in 5 categories including Best Album for 'Shine' and Best Song and Best Video for her number one single American Boy with Kanye West. Close in contention is other UK female R&B star Leona Lewis, who is up for 3 gongs after becoming the first British solo artist to go straight to no.1 in the US charts with a debut album.
Flying the flag for the men is the godfather of Grime Wiley, who revives his rivalry with Dizzee Rascal, last year's Best Male winner. Both of them are nominated for Best Song, Best Hip Hop and Best Male. Jay Sean, Taio Cruz and Sway complete the Best Male line-up.
Unlike previous years this years MOBO nominations seem to have pleased the majority even though a lot of eyebrows were raised when it was announced that Adele and Duffy were nominated for Best Female.
