  • Ellen, Los CampesinosEllen, Los Campesinos: ilikemusic because... It’s the best form of escapism that you can have wherever you are. You could be completely miserable or waiting for a bus and put on any song that inspires you and you can escape into a little world, well that’s what I tend to do anyway.
  • Ryan, OneRepublicRyan, OneRepublic: ilikemusic because... It is the soundtrack to my life every day.

MTV Video Music Awards

Gnarls Barkley and James Blunt topped the MTV Video Music Awards last night, both winning two awards each. Gnarls Barkley took home the award for Best Direction and Best Editing for their Crazy video, while the only UK artist nominated, James Blunt, received the Best Male Video and Best Cinematography for Beautiful.

Actor Jack Black hosted the ceremony at New York's Radio City Music Hall, where the first awards were staged back in 1984.

There were a few surprises though. Red Hot Chili Peppers and Shakira both had 7 nominations each but only won an award each, Shakira took the Best Choreography award for Hips Don't Lie, which she performed on the night with Wyclef Jean. Red Hot Chili Peppers took the Best Art Directorion award for their Dani California video.

Also, Madonna and Christina Aguilera were left empty handed, despite Madonna being nominated for five VMAs and Christina for four. Christina made up for it by proving her worth onstage with an incredible performance.

And, of course, Madonna won't be losing any sleep over missing out. She has the most VMAs of any artist, with 20 in total. What's more, Madonna's performance of Like A Virgin at the very first VMAs back in 1984 will always be remembered as one of the best ever.
