The veritable Queen of Pop achieved her 13th UK number one single this weekend with her 4 Minutes single, and is set to headline the main stage on Saturday 10th May 2008.
Indeed, this year, Radio 1 have pulled out all the stops to stage an incredible weekend of music!
Registration for the event has opened and will remain open for one week until 10am on 28th April. Once registration is complete 30,000 fans will be supplied with tickets to the event which will feature 50 bands and solo artists over the weekend on 10th-11th May 2008.
BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend: Line-up and registration here
Those acts include The Fratellis, Usher, Scouting For Girls, Nelly, Adele, Duffy, Goldfrapp, Pigeon Detectives and The Hoosiers, among others with The Kooks headlining on Sunday.
Almost half a million Radio 1 listeners registered for last year's Big Weekend, so this is very much a golden opportunity with only a lucky proportion of those who register able to attend. And, with Madonna headlining, the demand is expected to be even higher this year. Although tickets are randomly allocated, they are weighted in favour of Maidstone residents and those living in surrounding areas.
Gates open at 12pm and close at 10pm and the main Radio 1 DJs will be broadcasting live from the event.
Says Jason Carter, Head of Live Music & Events for Radio 1 and 1Xtra:
"The event continues to grow in stature year on year and this year promises to be the best yet with four stages and a cross-section of the best performing artists from the newest UK acts right through to some of the biggest performers in the world... For those that can't get to the event, there will be access via BBC TV, Red Button, Radio 1 and online."
More line-up details will be announced on BBC Radio 1
