Madonna, Elton and Robbie Await Ivor Novello Result
Some of the biggest names in music are competing at the Ivor Novello songwriting awards, to be announced at a ceremoney at Grosvenor House Hotel tonight. Madonna and Sir Elton John have each scooped two nominations each.
Sorry, written by Madonna and I Don't Feel Like Dancing written by Sir Elton John and performed by the Scissor Sisters are nominated in the international hit of the year and most performed work categories.
Sorry, appeared on Madonna's latest album, Confessions on a Dance Floor, and, as well as facing competition from Sir Elton, is up against Robbie Williams's Rudebox single in the international hit of the year category.
The Ivor Novello awards which honour British songwriters, composers and music publishers will take place at Grosvenor House in London on 24th May 2007.
Other shortlisted nominees include the Arctic Monkeys, whose When the Sun Goes Down track is nominated in the best song musically and lyrically category, plus Hot Chip, Amy Winehouse and Bodyrox, who are each nominated in the best contemporary song category.
Nominees in six categories, including best TV soundtrack and best original film score, have been announced ahead of the event. Another nine other awards - which include prizes for best album, international achievement and songwriters of the year - will be presented on the day.
Last year KT Tunstall took home the best song award for her Suddenly I See single, with James Blunt collecting two awards for for You're Beautiful in the most performed song and international hit of the year categories.
