Alicia Keys: ilikemusic because... it makes you feel!Mika has knocked Leona Lewis off to the top spot and secured his debut UK number one hit, ending the X Factor winner's reign.
Mika, who recently topped the BBC's Sound of 2007 poll, climbed two places with his single Grace Kelly to grab the number one position from Leona, who fell to number six following four weeks at number one with her own debut single, A Moment Like This.
And Mika wasn't the only new artist to secure a high place. Each of the top three single in this week's chart come from new artists. Just Jack's Starz in Their Eyes, single went in at number two with The View in at number three with Same Jeans.
Meanwhile Radio One DJ Chris Moyles's campaign to take advantage of the new chart rules saw Billie Piper's 1999 hit, Honey to the Bee, back in the chart at number 17. Moyles requested listeners of his show to download the song as an experiment to see if he could influence the new chart. Evidently, he can and did.
The new chart rules, introduced at the start of 2007, enable the sales of digital singles to count towards a chart position, regardless of whether their is a physical version available on CD (with a record deal supporting its release) or not. This means older releases and releases from unsigned bands can all bag a chart position if enough people buy them.
