Nationwide Mercury Prize UK Albums of the Year Shortlist To Be Announced
The twelve 2006 Nationwide Mercury Prize UK Albums of the Year will be revealed at 11.30am on Tuesday 18 July 2006. The announcement will be made in central London by musician and presenter Jools Holland.
Albums released between July 2005 and July 2006 are eligible for this year's Nationwide Mercury Prize, which celebrates the best of UK music. All genres of music are treated equally and the music on the album is the only thing taken into account. Recent winners of the Prize have included Antony and the Johnsons, Franz Ferdinand, Dizzee Rascal and Ms Dynamite.
'It has been a really strong year for UK music. With so many great albums out there at the moment, I'm really looking forward to the announcement. It has the potential to be a classic Nationwide Mercury Prize list!' said Jools Holland.
All twelve of the Albums of the Year will be honoured at the Nationwide Mercury Prize Awards Show on Tuesday 5 September, when the overall winner will also be announced
