Neil Diamond Tops UK Album Chart
67-year old pop connoisseur Neil Diamond has topped the UK album chart for the first time in his lengthy music career. His new release Home Before Dark saw Diamond become the artist who has taken the longest to top the album chart with an original work.
Home Before Dark has also topped the US chart. Based in New York, Diamond is sure to be enjoying his pop revival, his debut album having been released in 1966.
Neil Diamond will be playing live dates in the UK and Ireland during June as part of his European tour, which begins in Rotterdam on 24 May. Having sold 125 million records around the world Neil Diamond has only ever topped the album chart once before with a greatest hits compilation in 1992. He is best known for his earlier hits such as Sweet Caroline and Forever In Blue Jeans.
This weekend saw another first with the Ting Tings making their debut appearance in the UK singles chart at number one. The Manchester duo knocked the Queen of Pop from her top spot with their single That's Not My Name.
The Ting Tings are currently touring the UK supporting the release of their album We Started Nothing. After coming third in the BBC's Sound of 2008 poll in January, the Ting Tings, a.k.a Katie White and Jules De Martino, already have packed schedules. They have confirmed a string of festival gigs including Glastonbury, T in the Park, Reading and Leeds.
Other chart news includes Rihanna's new entry Take A Bow coming into the singles chart at number two. Meanwhile last weeks number one album Jumping All Over The World by German Techno outfit Scooter fell to number three, whilst Pendulum's latest album release In Silico came in at number two.
