Grammy Award winning Canadian-Portuguese superstar Nelly Furtado has made history by reaching Number one on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart with her single Manos Al Aire, the lead single off of Mi Plan, her fourth studio album which is her first completely recorded in Spanish. This is the first time that a North American artist makes this achievement with a song that was originally written in Spanish, not a translated version of an English language song.
Nelly Furtado has sold over 18 million albums in her career, with close to 10 millions in sales were from her most last album Loose, which was the #1 global album seller in 2007.
Nelly Furtado's upcoming album Mi Plan will be released on September 14th 2009 in more than 50 countries, and on September 15th in the U.S. The first single, Manos Al Aire, is already a success in Germany and Italy, where it had been #1 in radio, as well as in Colombia, Chile and Central America. The single is also Top 5 in Mexico, Spain and Argentina.
Nelly Furtado, who is known for wide-ranging musical taste and her interest in different cultures, has invited a select group of international artists from diverse genres, like Alejandro Fernandez, Josh Groban, Juan Luis Guerra, Julieta Venegas, La Mala Rodriguez, Buika and Alex Cuba, which have contributed giving a special touch to the album.
