Orange RockCorps 2009
Five thousand volunteers will each give four hours of their time to their local community in return for a money-can't-buy ticket to see Razorlight, David Guetta & Kelly Rowland, Daniel Merriweather and Chase & Status, with the headlining act to be announced shortly. The Orange RockCorps gig will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on 25th September 2009.
More than 60 volunteer projects are taking place across London, working on a range of issues such as the environment, housing and education. Partnering with over 40 charitable organisations including Thames 21, Somerville Adventure Playground and Vauxhall City Farm, these projects will see volunteers dedicate a collective 20,000 to improving communities in the London area.
Stephen Greene, RockCorps co-founder and CEO comments: "This is such a great and wide ranging slate of artists to celebrate the efforts of our 5,000 volunteers. And to round off this incredible line-up, we are looking forward to announcing another incredible act very shortly. Those of us lucky enough to be at least year's Give, Get Given gig at The Royal Albert Hall have a small idea of what is coming. The Orange RockCorps energy is building so massive around the country - we might just blow the dome off the Hall this year. Apologies to Queen Victoria!"
Spencer McHugh, Brand Director, Orange UK adds: "We look forward to celebrating the achievements of all the volunteers that have given 4 hours of their time and earned their ticket for the Orange RockCorps gig. It's going to be a night to remember."
Mayor of London Boris Johnson says: "This is a fantastic initiative that really drives home the message that hard work reaps rewards. Orange RockCorps boosts community spirit and encourages young people to make a real difference by volunteering for charitable projects."
The London launch of Orange RockCorps follows a successful programme in Manchester, which saw more than 3,000 young people give 12,000 hours to their local community in return for tickets to see Lady GaGa, The Enemy, N-Dubz, Tinchy Stryder and VV Brown at the Manchester Apollo.
The 2009 programme will continue with a series of four-hour projects in Paris, followed by a gig for volunteers at Le Zenith on 2nd October.
8,000 Britons and 5,000 Parisians will take part in up to 150 charity projects over the summer. All volunteers are encouraged to strike up long-term relationships with local charity partners. Through Orange RockCorps' Collective, young people are encouraged to give four hours to their neighbourhood all year round, in return for a range of prizes from Orange RockCorps' brand partners.
The Orange RockCorps programme will also be amplified via a partnership Sony Ericsson and Channel 4, who will broadcast the volunteer work and UK gigs during a summer of programming on T4.
