ReCoup started life during 2003 when Pieter Theron joined Adam Hyslop (keyboards/ drums) and Paul Errington (Guitars) on a project of writing and producing fresh original music. Initially they were creating mainly experimental studio work, fusing electronic music with live guitars, drums and vocals, and played live sets under the name Coup.
Paul and Adam departed from the project in 2004, at which point Mat Wood (blipscreen) on guitars and Alida Stadler (Delta Blue) on drums, joined forces with Pieter to create the current line up of ReCoup.
With new blood and enthusiasm, ReCoup set out on a new route of how their music should be performed. The group rented a warehouse in Docklands, East London and spent months of intensive work remodelling the sounds and setup and also continued writing new material, By incorporating electronic drum triggers and looping some of the sounds ReCoup are able to perform their complex music live. This provides for an energetic and vibrant live performance with more interaction with the audience. Essentially ReCoup is, looks, feels and sounds like a live band, but still maintains a strong electronic feel.
The majority of the recording of the album was done in Fleetwood Mobiles, at Bray Film Studios. Top producer Hugh Griffith and Marina Fussela from Playtime Productions, was brought in to co-produce and mix the tracks for the album, and Intimate Studios in Wapping, East London was used to do the final mix. Hugh has previously worked with well-known musicians and bands like Placebo and Goldie.
ReCoup are currently working on Club Remixes of some tracks, which should be ready in May.
From May 2006 ReCoup will be performing at various clubs to promote their newly released mini album.
Dates include:
Friday 5th May - Café de Paris "Chic", London W1
Thursday 18th May - "The Glitz" at Madame Jo Jo's, London W1
The group is also planning to perform at some European festivals in the summer and a tour to South Africa later in 2006. These dates are to be confirmed.
