Rihanna Tops UK Singles Chart on Downloads

Rihanna has gone straight in at number one in the UK singles chart with her new single, Umbrella, through download sales alone. The single isn't released physically on CD until 28th May.

The R&B star from Barbados who played the Radio 1 Big Weekend last weekend, said "I feel blessed and loved," as she pipped Maroon 5 to the post to secure the number one spot. Maroon 5 climbed to number two with their Makes Me Wonder single.

Rihanna knocked McFly off the top spot whose Baby's Coming Back single fell all the way down to number 20.

Beyonce and Shakira's Beautiful Liar slipped to number three. While Snow Patrol's Signal Fire single (part of the Soundtrack to Spiderman) was at number four. Hellogoodbye's Here (In Your Arms) climbed to number five.Former Sugababe Mutya Buena had a new entry at number 11 with her debut solo single, Real Girl while Scooch, the UK's Eurovision entry, fell from number five to number eight.

Meanwhile, in the album charts, Linkin Park went straight in at number one with their first album since 2004, Minutes to Midnight. While Rufus Wainwright's Release The Stars album was at number two. Funeral for a Friend entered the chart at number three with their Tales Don't Tell Themselves album. The Arctic Monkeys slipped down to number four with their Favourite Worst Nightmare album.Joe Cocker's latest collection of cover versions, Hymn For My Soul, entered the album chart at number nine.
