Sigur Rós Homepage Takeover Q&A
How are takeovers chosen?
Takeovers generally coincide with events/themes/holidays.
What has the response been by the community to other takeovers?
Generally great, all takeovers get a lot of community feedback - both happily surprised and completely shocked. Our first takeover was Tay Zonday Day -- where we featured the best "Chocolate Rain" response videos.
Who else has had a homepage takeover?
We've had over 20 guest editors take over our home page, along with celebrities like Rob Zombie (on Halloween), filmmaker Michel Gondry, Oprah, and Damon Wayons, along with many users who are active in the YouTube community.
However, "takeovers" are more theme based -- examples are Todd Oldham DIY Fashion, My Grammy Moment contest winners, The Davos Question, and themes like Valentine's Day, Super Tuesday and Tay Zonday Day.
The only other full-length music clip YouTube has featured on the home page was Radiohead's "Scotch Mist" concert on New Year's Day 2008.
What was the Sigur Rós contest?
"Minn Heima" (Minn) means "my" in Icelandic -- so the contest was for users to "create your own little Heima", the epic new film by Icelandic band Sigur Rós. The band had extra footage from "Heima", their gorgeous film chronicling their free tour around Iceland in 2006. It includes live footage and stunning landscapes, so they offered it to their fans to re-edit and make their own.
The Heima DVD chronicles the band's free tour of Iceland in 2006 (we are presenting the full 97 minute DVD)page << 1 2 3 4 >>
