Take That And Westlife Claim UK Chart Top Spots

Westlife have won the chart battle of the bands to take the number one album spot this week, with their The Love Album. Completely mystyfing critics, the Irish boy band beat best of albums from some of the best bands in the world, U2 and Oasis, to claim the top spot. The Beatles Love album was also fended off, managing to get a number three position. Oasis's incredible Stop The Clocks album charted in second place at number two, followed by the Beatles at three, while U2 entered the chart at number four with their U218 Singles Greatest Hits album.

However, U2 and Oasis are expected to sell more copies overall over the long-term, but with young girls dashing out to the shops to buy the Westlife album, they've ensured the number one. Meanwhile Westlife's single, The Rose, fell two places to number five.

Another boy band, Take That, claimed the top spot in the UK singles chart with new single Patience, crowning their comeback with their first number one single in over ten years. Their first chart topper was Pray back in 1993 and with seven other number one's since then, Patience is the boys' ninth number one single.
