Rob da Bank takes chance at Bestival

The Chancers, a five-piece band from The Isle of Wight have won the nationwide competition for one unsigned act to play The Blue Pavilion inspired-by Rizla at Bestival on 8th-10th September.

The competition attracted thousands of entries from unsigned acts the length and breadth of Great Britain and by pure coincidence the winning band actually comes from the homeland of Bestival - the Isle of Wight. Rob da Bank (BBC Radio 1), the brains behind Bestival judged the competition and will meet the band before they play live opening the Blue Pavilion on Friday afternoon.

The Chancers will perform a 30 minute set on the opening night in front of thousands of festival goers in The Blue Pavilion: inspired-by Rizla which will be the home of 24 hour ambient and electronica performances from the world's best experimental DJ's and bands in the 24 hour village.

The Chancers are a newly formed band, having been together for just six months and comprise Rick Stanbridge, Jack Henson, Chris Phillips, Chris Horne and Murray Klak all aged 25.

They describe their sound as Beatles meets Bob Marley meets Sly and the Family Stone, but stress that they are still at an organic stage regarding their specific sound and want to follow the Beastie Boy's attitude to recording and create their own sound organically without being too pre-emptive.
