V Festival 2006 Review

Another August weekend, another festival, and this time it was V Festival. The 11th annual event is held at two sites, Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire, and with 80 bands across six arenas, plus some mud and soggy campers for good measure, V Festival 2006 didn't disappoint. More than 130,000 festival-goers braved the weather to see the likes of Razorlight, Keane, Paul Weller and Radiohead.

One of the best organised festivals, V had all genres covered, indie, rock, dance, hip hop, easy listening, jazz, folk and pop... it's all there. And you can find some hidden treats too. For example, one of the highlights on on Saturday at Chelmsford were unsigned band, The Maze, who I Like Music chief deemed as "best in show" with their impressive indie sound. They featured on Cue Music's unsigned bands stage and are definitely one to watch. Meanwhile Orson and The Cardigans had the crowd singing in unison. The glorious Keane were fantastic as-always, belting out epic tracks from both albums with incredible energy. No wonder Tom's exhausted and having to cancel their forthcoming Edinburgh date.

  1. simon f bakersimon f baker: ilikemusic because... you can transcend the confines of the material world with it, it's probably better than shagging in fact. There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.
  2. lolololo: ilikemusic because... music is where some people display affection, show emotions and actually showing off who they are and their thinking. it is special unlike anything cos it goes out and never comes in back but in others.
  3. Kevin MichaelKevin Michael: ilikemusic because... I’ve been singing my entire life. I cannot go without listening to it or singing for a day. I wake up to it, I go to sleep to it, I am music.
  4. Jez, Utah SaintsJez, Utah Saints: ilikemusic because... It’s very good for the soul.
  5. daspsdasps: ilikemusic because... it's make me cool and numb n i love to hear music.
  6. Master GeeMaster Gee: ilikemusic because... It gives me an opportunity to truly express myself, unlike what happens in an everyday living situation where there are restrictions on you and limitations on you and demands on you and bills to pay, through music I can truly be comfortable with who I am, and do what I really want to do and say what I really want to say.
  7. Leon Jean-MarieLeon Jean-Marie: ilikemusic because... It transcends. It really creates emotion with someone. That feeling it gives you, it goes through boundaries. To create something, it just breaks through all the walls. When you connect with a song, that is it, that is magic isn't it?
  8. Kai, Mystery JetsKai, Mystery Jets: ilikemusic because... Music makes me smile.
