Review By Mr-G
Spoilt with German wine and juicy water melons, Jazz Cafe picnickers at Kenwood House were treated to a scorching hot afternoon on Sunday 10th July. And what a glorious way to spend a hot and mellow Sunday afternoon. The all-day event began beautifully with the funky Latin grooves of RSL. The stage set in woodland and the crowd separated by a 40ft lake seemed to make performers feel distant from the crowd, but the somewhat lethargic mexican waves provided some feedback, at least! A fitting setting however for "All The Ducks Are Swimming In The Water".
The Earlies continued the sunfilled afternoon with much-needed laidback harmonies blending into the awesome samba , salsa and soul from Louie Vega. No matter where you hid, sunburn seemed inevitable but that wasn't going to stop families of young and old let loose to Nitin Sawhney, who really did seem to suit the weather perfectly. Throughout the afternoon the Lemon Jelly crew mingled with the crowd, unexpectedly handing out free bingo cards to everyone, which was sooo Lemon Jelly!
Winding down the afternoon, Fred and Nick treated us all to a very amusing game of the mothers favourite! Prizes included signed merchandise and free tickets to the Second Jazz Cafe Picnic to be held at Marble Hill on Sunday the 14th of August, with performances from Royksopp, Morcheeba and The Herbalizer.
