Alex James and A&M Records join mobileACT unsigned™

Channel 4 has teamed up with Sony Ericsson and Orange to find the next big thing in music and can today reveal the prestigious panel which will be judging the shortlist of bands who've made it through to mobileACT unsigned™. The new series aims to unearth the best unsigned musical raw talent across the country.

The panel of experts includes enigmatic Blur bassist and songwriter, Alex James, Radio 1's new music aficionado Jo Whiley and Simon Gavin, Head of A&M Records UK.

The panel will be joined by a guest judge for the first auditions including Lily Allen, Mutya Buena, Calvin Harris and Just Jack.

Hosted by Alex Zane on Channel 4, T4 and E4, mobileACT unsigned is searching for the hottest unsigned band in Britain with a prestigious album deal with Universal's bespoke label imprint, A&M records. A label with an amazing history - its roll call of legendary artists includes The Police and The Carpenters, plus recent US success story The Black Eyed Peas and UK bands The Hours, The Horrors and Patrick Wolf.

The unquestionable industry heritage of the judging panel reflects mobileACT unsigned's goal to unearth real music talent - bands that write and perform their own original music. Jo Whiley has shown an unwavering commitment to discovering and promoting original and groundbreaking music whilst Alex James helped to shape a generation of British music as part of one of the UKs most influential bands of the 90s and beyond.
