Damon Albarn will perform songs and music from his new opera Dr Dee to headline Honeyfest 2012. Dr Dee was written with Rufus Norris and includes modern and Renaissance sounds, West African rhythm and the vocals of Damon Albarn, who will be joined onstage at Honeyfest by Madou Diabate. The opera follows the fortunes of an Elizabethan polymath and courtier, who end his life in poverty and disgrace.

Honeyfest is a small festival that this year takes place on April 14th in Marlborough, Wiltshire. Other acts thus far confirmed for the one-day event include Dry the River, Raghu Dixit (featuring members of Bellowhead), Rae Morris, Nick Harper and Kidnap Alice.

As well as providing a great day of musical entertainment, Honeyfest is concerned with supporting the local community, a venture in which it is supported by the BBC, who will host a stage this year under their BBC Introducing banner.
