Green Day return to the recording studio for new album

Green Day have revealed that they are heading back into the studio to record their follow-up to 2009's 21st Century Breakdown.

Billie Joe Armstrong, lead-singer and guitarist of the world-famous punk-rock band, tweeted last night: "Happy Valentine's Day! Officially started recording the new record today. It's FUCK TIME!!!!"

Having previously announced a "fresh and high energy" new direction, the band have showcased a few new songs in recent months including Wow, That's Loud and Make Out Party, though it is not known whether these tunes will make it into the studio with the band.

While we wait for more news to trickle through to the outside world the band's American Idiot musical is coming to the UK for a series of dates in October, November and December.
