The first official video from the anticipated second Hurts album has been unveiled by Theo on twitter. Rising early to tweet “Ladies & Gentlemen... #MIRACLE” the video sees the well preened duo delivering the anthemic new single in a desolate warehouse surrounded by leather clad sirens, a sense of apocalyptic foreboding and a giant flame-engulfed recreation of their new logo.
It's a confident step on from Wonderful Life, the synth-pop viral that introduced the Manchester pair in 2010. Miracle confirms their passion for clean-cut pop music; it's loud, there's crashing electric guitars and the chorus is unashamedly stadium focused, propelled forward by crowd coaxing melody.
We were told a long time ago this was the path Hurts were seeking. Speaking to Theo just after the release of Wonderful Life he confirmed it wasn't enigmatic art-pop Hurts wanted to achieve, it was pure pop music backed by his obsession with the three minute pop song. "It’s the constraint of it that fascinates me," he told us, confirming his aim with music was about "instant gratification combined with grandeur, all very instant and emotional, but in a concise way."
The instant gratification part must be working. Debut album Happiness has now sold over one million copies worldwide and follow-up Exile has prompted a near sell-out run of March and April UK and European tour dates.
Exile will be released on March 11th 2013 via RCA.
