John Lydon's post-Sex Pistols band Public Image Ltd (PiL) will release their first album for two decades later this year.
Lydon formed PiL after the demise of his iconic punk band Sex Pistols, with their debut album First Issue being released in 1978. Their last studio album was 1992's That What Is Not, but it will now be followed by the band's ninth album, tentatively titled This Is PiL, which will be released in May or June this year.
The new album will be preceded by a four-track EP called One Drop, due out on Record Store Day (April 21st).
Lydon described the new album as folk music, but told the NME that he did not necessarily mean that in the traditional sense: "it comes from the heart and the soul. Whether that be electric, acoustic, digital or analogue, that's still heart and soul. It's not pop fodder and finely crafted pieces of fluff."
