Recently-reformed Britpop legends Pulp are to be given the Outstanding Contribution To Music Award at the NME Awards 2012. The band will also play at the ceremony, which will take place at London O2 Academy at Brixton on February 29th.

The award comes seventeen years after the band reached their commercial height with their number one album Different Class, and just over a year since the band announced their reunion, which has proved a roaring success.

NME's editor, Krissi Murison, said of the decision: Pulp are one of the wittiest, cleverest and most brilliant bands the UK has ever produced. Their comeback live shows last year brought them a whole new generation of fans and proved their music is still as relevant today as it was at the peak of their Britpop powers.

The Outstanding Contribution To Music Award is sponsored by Teenage Cancer Trust.
