'OPEN ROAD' Single: 13th September 2004
This Autumn sees the release of the much-anticipated new studio album from Bryan Adams. Released by Polydor on September 20, 'Room Service' is a quintessential Adams record.
Listen to the album and win prizes below.
Produced by Bryan and mixed by Bob Clearmountain, 'Room Service' was largely recorded in hotel rooms and backstage whilst Bryan was on tour across Europe over the past two years.
'Open Road' is the first single from the album (released September 13th) and is classic Adams, recorded in one take and with a disarming freshness to its optimistic lyrics and vocals. 'Flying' is a stunning ballad while the track 'I Was Only Dreamin', a song about not accepting farewells, has added poignancy as it features a string arrangement and oboe from Adams's friend and long-time collaborator, Michael Kamen, who died last year.
Every track on this, Bryan's 11th studio album, has a tale to tell, whether it is that ephemeral moment when you make eye contact with a stranger in a big city ('East Side Story') or taking a shot at yourself over a relationship ('She's A Little Too Good For Me'). The title track, somewhat overdue for a man who has spent so much of his life on tour, reflects on those times "when a hotel room's the closest thing you got to home".
