Duran Duran New Single and Album

It comes naturally to Duran to incorporate brittle guitars and cold synths alongside the pulse of disco in their music. 'Astronaut' will take you back to the future, to a time when rock musicians were steeped in the latest developments in R&B and dance, to a time when 'crossover' and 'cross-pollination' weren't just marketing strategies.

So `Astronaut' is a startling follow-up to a trio of early '8os funk-rock, synth-pop, art-dance landmarks - 'Duran Duran' (1981), 'Rio'(1982) and the aforementioned 'Ragged Tiger` - not to mention the result of the most protracted lay-off in music history. But how is it that one of the biggest pop groups on Planet Earth has, after so long, come back so strong?

According to Nick Rhodes, the germ of the idea of a full-scale Duran reunion occurred to him and Simon Le Bon while on tour in the States during 1999-2000. Suddenly, as Nick puts it, "Duran Duran without any Taylors" seemed weird, seemed wrong. Soon they found themselves in John Taylor's LA home, considering the possibility of contacting the other two. "We said, 'Let's see if everyone's genuinely enthused,' Nick explains. "We spoke to Andy and Roger and it became pretty evident that there was an interest."
