Duran Duran New Single and Album

But it quickly became apparent that this was not going to be some oldies-based, revivalist, nostalgia-circuit routine. "The agenda was never, 'Oh, what shall we play first, "Wolf' or "Rio"?"' says John Taylor. "It was, 'Let's just start playing.' It was like when the band started out: very organic. We all came to impress - everyone wanted to do good. As Andy has said: 'Nobody showed up with a sitar!'"

No one was more delighted than Andy Taylor that the others hadn't acquired any strange musical habits in the intervening decade and a half; that they didn't seem intent on pursuing idiosyncratic directions that would inevitably lead down musical cul-de-sacs. Nevertheless, he wanted to make sure everyone knew this was going to be a forward-looking venture.

"When we got back together we decided the basis for our relationship - more than friendship or playing together like a pub band - was that we were a creative entity," he says. "We set the bar quite high. We knew we couldn't 'do an Eagles' and go on the road with a 'Hell Freezes Over' vibe. Because we'd only made three studio albums there was a strong feeling collectively that we had more to say. We had very positive intentions. And it worked!"
