Daniel Ward Murphy - Until The Morning Light
Daniel was born and raised near Maidstone in Kent. The third of four children in a creative and somewhat chaotic household, he was surrounded by music from a very early age.
It was inevitable that music would begin to play a large part in his life, and from boyhood Daniel sang for a local musician and with various local youth groups, finding himself singing to empty halls in Scotland and in studios way past his bedtime.
Perhaps it was also unavoidable that some kind of instrument would, at some point, find its way into his hands. This happened at the age of 13, when Daniel began to teach himself guitar as a means to write songs and accompany his singing.
As the years went by Daniel's passion for music continued to grow and, on arrival at university in Bournemouth he formed his first band Coney Junction with fellow students, including Dan Winterburn, with whom he formed a strong musical friendship. Coney Junction played to large local crowds and won a regional battle of the bands competition.
As their university years came to an end, the 'two Dans' decided to stick together and move to London to continue with the musical pursuits. After several terrible auditions, they met talented musicians Neil Quilley (guitar) and Dave Hume (bass) and formed the band Bullet Galloway. In their years together they enjoyed many live shows around the London area, built up a sizeable following in the capital and Daniel had a chance to refine and perform his repertoire. However, after a couple of near misses with the major labels, the responsibilities of adult and work life caught up with some band members and very amicably, the band dissolved.
At this point Daniel found himself at a crossroads - the frustrations of the industry weighed heavy but he began to write more prolifically and placed huge faith in the new material. He decided to perform some solo shows, which were well received and effectively announced him as a solo artist. As things began to naturally progress, he set about putting together a backing band of immense talent - working with various musicians before settling on the superb line up of Jennifer Delaney (vocals), Milo Bird (cello), Helen Twomey (violin) and eventually Pravin Mukhi (drums).
As Daniel and band continued to perfect their sound by performing around the London area, he was told about Sellaband.com - an initiative whereby fans invest in their favourite artists in order to enable them to professionally record an album. In May 2008, as a result of support by over 900 fans, Daniel hit the magic $50,000 recording target on Sellaband and began a short period of intense work in the studio with acclaimed producer Tony Platt and the band.
The results of their labours - the album Until The Morning Light - is available from 12th January 2009.
