Girls Aloud Set New UK Singles Record

Girls Aloud have secured a place in the new Guinness World Records book after notching up the most consecutive top 10 hits in the UK chart by a female group.

The girls have had 16 consecutive top ten hits, the most recent of those being their new single, Sexy! No No No, have scored a run of 16 hits inside the top 10.

Destiny's Child held the record previously with 11 top 10 hits by a female group, but now Girls Aloud have broken that record with 16 hits (including three number ones), four platinum albums (including a number one) and record sales in excess of 4.6 million in the UK alone.

Girls Aloud are a Smash Hits Poll Winners, TMF Award winning and BRIT Award nominated British girl group who found fame after winning the ITV1 talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.

Meanwhile, Madonna is also in the record books, breaking Cher's record for the highest-grossing music tour per concert. Madonna also has the record for most chart-topping albums by a female artist, with nine number one albums. The title was previously held by Kate Bush.

Robbie Williams and David Bowie both share the record for most number one albums for a male artist, while The Rolling Stones Bigger Bang Tour broke their own record for the highest-grossing tour in history.

The latest edition of the Guinness World Records is published on 28th September 2007.

Other record breakers include Little Britain which claimed the record for best-selling TV comedy series on DVD after it sold more than 645,000 units worldwide with revenues of £2.7m.

Desperate Housewives broke the record previously held by Baywatch while The Sopranos cast broke the record for being the highest-paid in TV. We're off to join the cast of The Sopranos...
