This unique collaboration came about when Alison and bandmate Will Gregory met the Lips frontman Wayne Coyne in Ireland last year and then again this spring at Top of the Pops. Alison says, "I've got this big thing about The Flaming Lips at the moment. I mean, who hasn't? I met Wayne Coyne last year and he was utterly charming of course, and their show was amazing. It's an exhilarating combination of the magical and the resolutely rinky-dink home made. I just loved it."
Wayne Coyne says of the mix, "The original being so simple and kitschy (not in a bad way) - it was easy to go the other route... we tried to make it more psychologically complex and give the story the desperate quality of a disturbing, strange love affair. I believe we veered toward a Nina Simone meets Radiohead kind of mood. It was truly a joy to experiment with her lovely voice."
The release of the 7" coincides with Goldfrapp's headline set at this year's Eden Sessions on 25th August at Cornwall's Eden Project. This is the culmination of a year of touring the 'Supernature' album and is going to be an extra special show to celebrate Goldfrapp's last stand-alone date before they start writing their next album. Judging by fan messages on the website, Eden is going to a frenzy of animal masks and magical outfits and might just turn out to be the embodiment of Alison's original tongue-in-cheek vision of Supernature as, "An uber world of sound and hybrid creatures. It's a place to take part in fortnightly disco séances, where people dance with spirits and howl like beasts of the forest wearing lycra and stilettos."
