New Young Pony Club Live @ The Pyramids, Portsmouth

Review by Chris Waugh

Playing to someone else's crowd as support band is never easy. Getting people to face the stage and pay attention is a feat in itself. Getting the chattering fools at the bar to shut up is alone considered a success.

That New Young Pony Club can achieve both the above and incite numerous punters to actually shake their arses and dance is a complete coup, especially given the majority of the audience have come to see the lovely Lily Allen at the Pyramids tonight.

In fact the three-fifth's female NYPC act as a kind of rudimentary coolness/ intelligence filter. From stage right it is easy to discern the Burberry-clad chart-watching peeps from all the young dudes with enough savvy to recognise a floor filling dance pop tune when they hear one. And NYPC have them in spades. It's also no coincidence that those dancing - those who get it - are the best dressed here.

In short; NYPC are great; evil synth-pop geniuses with more style than fashion week in Milan.
