New Young Pony Club Live @ The Pyramids, Portsmouth

As 2006 swiftly draws towards conclusion and we reflect upon the previous 12 month's fun and nonsense, it's obvious that pop music is fast becoming about style and substance, and about time too. Whilst the irresistibly indie Long Blondes continue their ascent, strutting their glamorous charity shop chic at us, New Young Pony Club are ploughing a similar furrow; only with more disco, more synths and sexy knowing scowls on their faces.

As soon they stride onstage wearing their own nifty t-shirts and chief Pony Clubber Tahita demands, incredibly politely but firmly, that she wants to see us dancing, we know she means business.

And who are we to argue? This is, after all, a woman who has half her head shaved, dances like she's on an invisible cross trainer, yet still looks utterly and totally gorgeous and every inch the music-cum-style icon in waiting.

The same goes for the rest of NYPC, each dressed to impress as much to express. ilikemusic.com has trouble on more than one occasion diverting its eyes from the vision of loveliness that is Lou on keyboards.
