2005 has been a breakthrough year for BOWLING FOR SOUP in their native USA. The Grammy nominated band's latest album, "A Hangover You Don't Deserve", has been certified Gold and its first two singles, "1985" and "Almost" have reached Platinum status. "1985" stayed at the top of the national download chart for three weeks and the track's now-infamous video hit the MTV TRL video chart. Motley Crue legend Nikki Sixx, one of the artists parodied in the video, described it as "a classic" and even offered to loan bassist Erik Chandler one of his original 1980s costumes.
In June the band performed on the main-stage at the Download Festival. An irrepressibly upbeat pop-rock band from the Lone Star State sharing a bill with Black Sabbath, Anthrax, Meshuggah and Helmet? An interesting prospect, but one that these boys took in their stride. "Our music crosses a lot of boundaries," says guitarist Chris Burney, "We can walk into a country bar and have them loving us in five minutes. We could sound like Cheap Trick or something from the 70s. By the end of the show, they're always on our side." His prediction proved to be true. The band's set was hailed by rock fans and critics alike as one of the most entertaining performances of the festival.
