Kingskin

Kingskin - Rhyme For Smalltime

Sometimes a band arrives with such furious intent that they're just impossible to ignore. Kingskin are on of those bands. Playing the game by their own rules, their sound is honed in on classic rock, grunge and the alternative sounds of the early 90's. Like Nirvana might have sounded if Kurt had listened to more Led Zep and less Frank Black, the overriding feeling is that of a band driven by total faith in their music and a need to get away from the world of dead-end 9 to 5's.

Two years have passed since the band won Kerrang!'s Best Unsigned Band Competition, in a reader's poll, and now they are releasing their long awaited debut album, Rhyme For Smalltime. Opening track Bottom Dollar immediately explodes into a flurry of guitars, squealing solos and whisky-soaked vocals. The anthemic Nothing Left To Burn is followed by a masterclass in bass heavy grunge-punk in the shape of In The Way. As an album the pace is unrelenting, held together by a fine rhythm section that keeps the band's style of flitting between the riff-centric, bass heavy stomps to driving melodic rock choruses all in check.

The record was mixed by George Shilling (Bullet For My Valentine) and mastered by Tim Turan (Marilyn Manson, Napalm Death, The Ramones and Jimmy Eat World). As their debut album proper it follows 2007's 'Humpin' Mojo EP' and precedes a much anticipated Steve Albini produced record due to surface in 2009. In support of the release, the band will be playing the following dates:

  1. Master GeeMaster Gee: ilikemusic because... It gives me an opportunity to truly express myself, unlike what happens in an everyday living situation where there are restrictions on you and limitations on you and demands on you and bills to pay, through music I can truly be comfortable with who I am, and do what I really want to do and say what I really want to say.
