On the strength of four solid hit singles - the Grammy-nominated #3 Modern Rock anthem of 2004, Somebody Told Me, the VMA-winning (and Grammy-nominated) Mr. Brightside, the Modern rock hit Smile Like You Mean It, and the Grammy-nominated All These Things That I've Done - HOT FUSS was first certified double-platinum by the RIAA in April 2005. In August, Hot Fuss Limited Edition was issued, including three bonus tracks previously unreleased in the U.S. (Glamorous Indie Rock Roll, The Ballad of Michael Valentine, Under The Gun). Cumulative sales pushed the album to triple-platinum by November, and worldwide sales have topped the 5 million mark since then.
The Killers - Brandon Flowers on vocals and keyboards, guitarist David Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci - were the music industry's top artist development story of 2004-2005. In August, the album was named to the Long List of first-round nominees from 11 countries for the Shortlist Music Prize, presented by XM and MTV2. In September, the Killers were nominated for Best New Act at Q magazine's annual awards. In November, they won the Breaking Woodie (as Freshman Best Emerging Artist) at mtvU's 1st annual Woodie Awards.
