The Mars Volta ‘The Widow’

Like all truly great bands, The Mars Volta are both genius and insanity rolled into one... just the way we like it!

The intro from their biog seems to sum things-up better, so in their own words...

'The Mars Volta is neither a concept album band nor a prog band. Sure, they excel at both, but Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavalas formed the Mars Volta in 2001 in order to dispose of labels and limitations of any kind, to move beyond genres strip-mined into obsolescence--be they dinosaur prog or 2-D punk.'

"We are really tired of those labels and questions," says guitarist, co-founder and producer Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. "Concept album? How can any huge project that takes up most of your life for a year not have a concept? Prog? How can any innovative, forward-thinking art or music not be progressive?"

'Frances the Mute' is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to the critically acclaimed 'De-loused in the Comatorium' the debut album from The Mars Volta.

'The Widow' is the first single from the album to greet the world.

A beautiful emotion-filled track with an equally beautiful video , created and directed by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez himself.

The Mars Volta are:
Cedric Bixler Zavala - Vocals
Omar A Rodriguez-Lopez - Guitars
Jon Theodore - Drums
Juan Alderete - Bass
Ikey Isiah Owens - Keys
Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez - Percussion

'Frances The Mute' is set for release on 28th February '05 with 'The Widow' following on 7th March 2005. To support these releases The Mars Volta will be playing a number of UK dates in March.
