To universal critical acclaim, 17 April 2006 saw the release of Wolfmother's self-titled debut album hit the UK. Radio 1 playlist ensued, 'Hottest Record in the World' and a "Single of the Week" with Zane Lowe and MTV2 mass coverage... not to mention the small matter of a sell out UK tour culminating at a celebratory, sweat soaked Koko (London).
But bigger things were already afoot. Before they set foot on our shores in April, Wolfmother had already sold out their July headline show at London's Astoria, three months in advance. And looking at the crowds they're uniting both younger and older audience alike, resulting in a new but hugely varied fan-base. A somewhat unique feat in todays music market.
Elsewhere in the world things are ticking over quite nicely for the three young men from down under. They debuted at 22 in the US Billboard chart and 11 in Canadian album charts. In Australia they've been hanging out in the Top 10 for 23 weeks. Their wild and fast becoming legendary live shows have seen them acquire a range of musical acolytes - most recently the band have been invited to play dates with Sonic Youth and The Flaming Lips. In addition, album track 'Love Train' has been chosen as the title music to the new iPod advert, which is currently airing in USA, Canada and Australia.
