Musically too, the band stretched themselves to make a record they could be really proud of. James' bass lines still lie at the heart of The Ordinary Boys songs, carrying both punch and melody and William is rapidly becoming one of the finest guitarists of his generation, able to apply restraint and inventiveness across the tracks with his finest work to date. Add to that new drummer Simon Goldring, a real find whose contribution to the album gives the rhythm section a breadth of influence and ability best demonstrated on first single, "Boys Will Be Boys" and you have a band with an average age under 20 producing what is sure to be seen as a British pop classic in year's to come. Simon also added an unthought of edge to the sessions as Preston notes:
