Absent Amy Winehouse Wins Five Grammy's
Amy Winehouse was this year's big winner at the Grammy Awards 2008. Despite being absent from the LA award ceremony due to problems getting a visa, Amy won five awards including song of the year for Rehab and record of the year, plus best new artist, best pop vocal album for Back To Black and best female pop vocal performance for Rehab.
Fortunately though, Amy was able to perform You Know I'm No Good and Rehab and make an acceptance speech by satellite from a London studio.
Amy gave her mum a big hug as the Los Angeles crowd chanted her name. The 24-year-old singer paid tribute to her husband, "my Blake incarcerated", who is in custody awaiting trial on charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice and GBH. "Camden Town ain't burning down," added Amy, in reference to the Camden fire this weekend, dedicating the award to London.
The US embassy refused her visa initially, then reversed their decision at the eleventh hour, but they were too late, as she wouldn't have made it to the ceremony in time by the time she'd been granted a visa.

It gives me an opportunity to truly express myself, unlike what happens in an everyday living situation where there are restrictions on you and limitations on you and demands on you and bills to pay, through music I can truly be comfortable with who I am, and do what I really want to do and say what I really want to say.
