Amy Winehouse was the first British Act to take home a Grammy for best new artist since Sade won it in 1986. The only award she didn't win for which she was nominated for was the award for album of the year which went to Herbie Hancock for River. Amy is now set to go back in to rehab at Capio Nightingale clinic to continue her treatment for drug addiction.
Other big winners included Kanye West who was nominated for eight and took home four Grammy Awards and Bruce Springsteen with three. Justin Timberlake, Mary J Blige, The White Stripes and Carrie Underwood all scooped two awards each.
Kanye West dedicated his awards to his mother who died suddenly in November. "I know you're really proud of me right now and I know you want me to be the number one artist in the world," he said. "And mama, all I'm going to do is keep making you proud. We run this," said Kanye.
The ceremony was opened by Alicia Keys who sang a "duet" of Learnin' the Blues with the late Frank Sinatra. Another performance highlight saw Tina Turner perform for the first time in seven years alongside Beyonce.
