Steff, Webmaster Musebr.com: ilikemusic because... the shows are very good, we make friends, we jump, and everybody scream so loud, and for a moment we forget all the problems of the world!Chipmunk, the hottest new name on the grime scene, releases his first ever single this autumn. 17 year old Chipmunk releases the single Beast through Alwayz Recordings available from November 17th 2008.
Chipmunk became the youngest artist ever to win a MOBO award earlier this month when he walked away with the Best Newcomer award. "It's an honour to win a MOBO," says Chipmunk. "It's good to be rewarded for everything I am putting into my community." Even more impressively Chipmunk won the award before even releasing his first official single.
If Chipmunk's already a familiar name that might be because his Myspace page has had over 2 million views and his freestyle on Westwood's radio show has had over 1.1 million hits on You Tube.
Beast will feature on Chipmunk's forthcoming album, I Am Chipmunk, expected in early 2009. Beast will change all that, and will come accompanied by a bassline remix as well as a new version featuring fellow rising grim star, Bashy. The final track on the CD will be a brand new new track, Hitmaker. All tracks feature Chipmunk's trademark swagger and fierce rhymes that have won him a legion of fans already.
Still at college in London studying for his A-Levels, Chipmunk will undoubtedly feel like he has a lot to prove, but others might think he's already done that after writing every song on his album as well as ripping up crowds in support of stars like Lil Wayne and Dipset. Keep an eye on Chipmunk - he's undoubtedly one of the most exciting acts for 2009.
