Grammy Award winning artist Jody Watley has returned with The Makeover via a new UK deal between Watley's Avitone Recordings and ADA Global. The Makeover is Watley's first full scale release since the critically acclaimed Flower in 1998 and much sought after import Midnight Lounge in 2003.
The Makeover is a stunning collection of soulful electronica that has woven timeless and treasured songs together with contemporary production and soulful nuances. It's preceded by double A-side single Borderline/A Beautiful Life. Borderline becomes a heart-shaped plea, the melancholy in the original lyric embellished by Watley's warm vocal tone, whilst A Beautiful Life is an uptempo original, with a message of self-empowerment, that went Top 5 on the US Billboard Dance Chart. Both are produced by Watley and long time collaborator Rodney Lee.
"The Makeover is a reflection of the music that has inspired much of my work the past decade," Watley says. "I've taken songs I love and brought them into the present. As a songwriter and producer, I wanted to compliment the project with two original compositions, reminding people that I'm a songwriter as well."
