Rihanna Makes UK Chart History

Rihanna has made chart history, with her Umbrella single becoming the longest-running number one single since 1994, topping the UK chart for a 10th week. Umbrella is the first song since Wet Wet Wet's Love Is All Around to spend more than nine weeks in pole position.

Rihanna, who has just announced her first major UK arena tour, has become only the seventh artist in the history of the chart to score a 10th week at number one.

Kate Nash's Foundations was close behind Rihanna's single though, with just 131 sales between the number one and number two positions.

Timbaland, climbed to number three on downloads alone with his new single, The Way I Are, followed by Fergie who slipped two places to number four with Big Girls Don't Cry. Enrique Iglesias rose from seven at number five with his Do You Know? single. Avril Lavigne slipped a place to seven with When You're Gone, while Mark Ronson featuring Lily Allen climbed to number eight with Oh My God. Arctic Monkeys Flourescent Adolescent slipped to number nine from five.

Meanwhile, in the album chart, Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts made an enemy of The Enemy, knocking them off the top spot to enter the album chart at number one with his debut release One Chance.

The 36-year-old former mobile phone salesman, who was signed by Simon Cowell hit back at The Enemy lead singer's rant about longevity, insisting he'll be singing for the rest of his life. His debut album sold 128,315 units. The only other new entry in the album chart was X Factor runner up, Ray Quinn, whose Doing It My Way went in at number 83.
