Tinie Tempah chats to ilikemusic

10 Gcse's and 3 A levels later Tinie Tempah presents his first official offering to British Music, Hood Economics Room 147. He refers to it as an Audio Scrapbook and it is complete and ready for release. "Hood Economics is my dissertation which is open to the public I suppose" he says, explaining the title. "It's my own interpretation of music and economics, based around Adam Smith's Invisible Hand, a theory I learnt at college. I strive to be the best. The standard of British urban music is so low at the moment, which in turn has affected the type of deals artists are getting. I feel I'm what the industry is missing and Hood Economics Room 147 is my proof."

We caught up with Tinie Tempah to chat about his latest single and album, making tunes and being on tour.

"I Like Music because…Music is my best friend, its Mon Amié." TINIE TEMPAH

ILM : Your new single Lollipop is out now. Can you give us your own description of the tracks whole vibe?

Tinie Tempah : Basically, Lil' Wayne did the original and I'm a big fan. I always swore I wouldn't cover a track of his until I was able to make it as good as the original or better. I think it's safe to say I did quite a good job! It's basically the UK's very own version of one of the biggest tunes in America right now. I'm just telling the fans how it is for me as a British rapper, when I go out to a club and the sort of women I come across. It's very humorous and a little bit naughty. One fan said he actually received a lap dance from his girlfriend to it, that was quite cool.

  1. simon f bakersimon f baker: ilikemusic because... you can transcend the confines of the material world with it, it's probably better than shagging in fact. There is virtually nothing more satisfying than when a load of chords and words suddenly come together into a song ; suddenly everything in life seems to fit and make sense once more.
