ASHUNDA: ilikemusic because... I like positive music for it leads the joys with lifeDance music lovers get ready the new era is here; "Keep The Grime On" is Visionary Underground's debut album. The breakbeats are organic, the basslines are dirty, analogue grimy rhythms and the delays are twisted and edgy. Distressed strings, tortured brass, and beautiful melodies layer this sound. From Rollabreakz to Subway you are taken on an eclectic musical journey and the outcome is consistent. This original and distinctive sound is Visionary Underground…
KTGO is the culmination of serious graft, and some outstanding collaborations. Producer DJ FeelFree brings together influences from hardcore breakbeat to drum 'n' bass breaks. He fuses them with dub, ragga, asian, electro, Rn'B, hip-hop and more.
Keeping a rare integrity, he pays homage to the founding fathers of the breakz, deliberately avoiding samples and generating unique and funky rifts of his own. FeelFree skillfully weaves the talents of vocalist Damion and guest collaborators, such as Dr Das (Asian Dub Foundation), MC Navigator (of Freestylers fame) and Aref Durvesh (Nitin Sawhney's tabla player) into the mix.
For a dance album KTGO is a healthy balance of instrumentation and vocal content, with plenty for DJs, and also the sing-a-long crew to get their teeth into. Damion's lyrics are insightful and thought provoking, and reinforce the fact that VU's music is for a free thinking generation able to read between the lines of political spin.
Among the fifteen tracks on KTGO there are familiar tunes like (the now remixed) Militant 24-7, previously the title music to BBC's 'Desi DNA' programme, and featured on the FabricLive 15, compilation series. Also featured, is the critically acclaimed Urban Uproar and the band's first CD single Eye of the Storm described in the underground press as a "pumping tune... uplifting… highly energized… and taking breakbeat forward..."
Samples of tracks from the new album can currently be streamed from visionaryunderground.com and are available for purchase now..
